ring the Great Migration. But it is the first book that I have written that specifically focuses on the Laceys, weaving together an interesting journey about my parents, how they met, the lives they led, the struggles they endured, and ultimately, the legacy they left behind for future Lacey generations. This story contains references to my everyday heroes who shaped my ethical and moral compass as a young boy. These people, like my great, great, uncles and aunts John and Jellon Wright, Lester and Bobby Block, and acquaintances such as Mr. and Mrs. Marcel and LaFayette Gatewood Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Perry had a considerable imprint on my life, teaching me important lessons that continue to impact me to this day.In addition, I included references to African-American champions such as inventors who made American life easier to navigate and for which they should receive much credit, but whose inventions unfortunately are little known black history facts that often were ignored and or simply overlooked in school textbooks. While some may be surprised about events outlined in this book, none of what I have written is fiction. At times, this story may be uncomfortable to read---or for some readers simply comprehend---it is a story that is real. It is the Lacey story. It is my parents story. And yes---it is my story.
